HONG KONG, 4 December 2008– The Hong Kong Mercantile Exchange (HKMEx), established as a bridge between international commodities markets and China, today announces the appointment of Mark Ho as Chief Compliance Officer and John Ryan as Head of Corporate Communications.
“We’re extremely pleased to have these two seasoned professionals joining us,” said HKMEx Chairman Barry Cheung. “They will play key roles as we grow and develop our core team leading the Hong Kong Mercantile Exchange.”
Mark Ho brings extensive compliance experience in the futures industry to his new position. He is a former Director of Business Development at Sun Hung Kai Financial Group. From June 2005 to January 2008 was a Director with Phillip Securities Group in Hong Kong responsible for compliance and product development. Mark was also previously Vice President of Corporate Strategy of Hong Kong Exchanges and Clearing Limited and was Head of Compliance of the Hong Kong Futures Exchange between 1993 and 2000.
John Ryan joins HKMEx from a private financial communications consultancy. He has previously headed corporate communications in Asia-Pacific for the wholesale banking arm of HSBC and for Western Union. Beginning his career in journalism, John founded the Moscow Bureau of Bloomberg News, worked in equities sales and led a fixed-income data firm focused on Moscow Interbank Currency Exchange trading. He was later Bureau Chief of Dow Jones Newswires in Moscow and Hong Kong.
