HKMEx Extends Reach in China with Addition of
Key Market Participant

Guotai Junan Futures joins Exchange as Broking Member


HONG KONG, 24 November, 2011– The Hong Kong Mercantile Exchange (“HKMEx”), China’s international commodity marketplace, announces today the addition of Guotai Junan Futures (Hong Kong) Ltd, as the Exchange’s newest broking member. The addition will further HKMEx’s reach through Guotai Junan’s extensive customer base in Greater China, and at the same time give the futures firm access to the Exchange’s unique product offerings.

Guotai Junan Futures’ approval as an HKMEx member will enable it to access a state-of-the-art electronic platform for trading commodities in the Asian Pacific time zone, benefiting from the Exchange’s transparent, liquid and cleared market environment.

An active participant of both the global and Hong Kong futures and options market since it was set up in 1997, Guotai Junan Futures provides trading in commodity futures including metals, agriculture, and energy products, as well as in foreign exchange, interest rates, and financial indices.

“One of Guotai Junan’s goals is to serve as a bridge to connect enterprises and investors in Greater China to the world, enabling international investors to gain access to dynamic growth in China. Joining HKMEx will allow us to further this goal, as well as provide our clients with a greater variety of investment options, such as the Exchange’s internationally-traded gold and silver futures contracts,” said Dr. YIM Fung, Vice-Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Guotai Junan International Holdings Limited, the holding company of Guotai Junan Futures.

HKMEx Chairman Barry Cheung said: “As one of the largest Chinese securities houses in Hong Kong, Guotai Junan has extensive business network and customer base across the region. Combined with HKMEx’s world-class trading facilities, this will no doubt create abundant mutually-beneficial opportunities.”

In addition to Guotai Junan Futures, HKMEx’s current list of broking members includes BOCI Securities Ltd, Bright Smart Futures and Commodities Co. Ltd, Celestial Commodities Ltd, CES Capital International Co. Ltd, Chief Commodities Ltd, GF Futures (Hong Kong) Co., Limited, Haitong International Futures Limited ICBC International Futures Ltd, Interactive Brokers LLC, Jinrui Futures (Hong Kong) Limited, KGI Futures (Hong Kong) Ltd, Morgan Stanley Hong Kong Securities Ltd, Nanhua Futures (Hong Kong) Co., Limited, OSK Futures Hong Kong Ltd, Phillip Commodities (HK) Ltd, Tanrich Futures Ltd, TG Securities Ltd, and Wing Fung Futures Limited. Its clearing members include G. H. Financials Limited, Interactive Brokers (UK) Ltd, and Morgan Stanley & Co International Plc.

HKMEx currently trades two contracts including a 32 troy ounces gold futures contract and a 1,000 troy ounces silver futures contract. Both are denominated in US dollars, with the option for physical delivery. Other products in the pipeline include a renminbi-denominated gold futures contract, as well as products in other precious metals, base metals, agriculture, energy, and commodity indicies.
