Mr Barry C. Cheung, GBS, JP

Mr Barry C. Cheung, GBS, JP

Mr Cheung is Chairman of the Hong Kong Mercantile Exchange.

He is currently Chairman of Hong Kong's Urban Renewal Authority, and the Standing Committee on Disciplined Services Salaries and Conditions of Service. He is also Alternate Chairman of the Pay Trend Survey Committee, a member of the Commission on Strategic Development, a member of the Standing Commission on Civil Service Salaries and Conditions of Service, as well as a former Chairman of the Corruption Prevention Advisory Committee of Hong Kong’s Independent Commission against Corruption.

Mr Cheung also served as the Chairman for the campaign office of then-Chief Executive candidate Leung Chun-Ying, during the latter’s successful election campaign in 2012.

In March 2012, Mr Cheung was elected Chairman of UC Rusal, the world's largest producer of aluminium. He is also an independent non-executive member of the board.

Prior, he was with McKinsey & Company in Los Angeles and then Hong Kong between 1987 and 1994, advising major financial institutions in the United States and Asia. During this period, he also served as a full-time member of the Hong Kong Government's Central Policy Unit.

Mr Cheung received a Bachelor of Science degree with first-class honours in Mathematics and Computer Science from the University of Sussex and an MBA from Harvard Business School.

Ms Lili Wang

Ms Lili Wang

Ms Lili Wang is a Deputy Chairman of the Hong Kong Mercantile Exchange.

She was appointed Executive Director of Industrial and Commercial Bank of China Limited in April 2010. Previously, she was Vice Chairman and a Director of the bank from December 2002 to March 2010. Ms Wang is the Senior Executive Vice President of Industrial and Commercial Bank of China Limited, primarily responsible for matters relating to assets and liabilities management, international business, financial market business, asset management business and legal affairs.

Ms Wang graduated from Nankai University and received an MBA Degree in International Finance from the University of Birmingham in the UK. Ms Wang has over 34 years of banking experience and was awarded a Certificate of Competence for Professor in the banking field. She is also the Chairlady of the Board of Directors of ICBC (London) Limited.

Captain Jiafu Wei

Captain Jiafu Wei

Captain Wei Jiafu is a Deputy Chairman of the Hong Kong Mercantile Exchange.

He has a master's degree from Dalian Maritime University and a doctoral degree from Tianjin University. He has been a managing director in a number of COSCO subsidiaries both at home and abroad, including listed companies. In November 1998, Captain Wei became President and CEO of COSCO Group, and since November 2002, he has been a member of CPC Central Commission for Discipline Inspection. Since March 2005, Captain Wei has served as Chairman of COSCO.

As a ship's master, he has accumulated rich experiences in international shipping and listed company management and operation. Captain Wei's other major titles at home and abroad include: Chairman of China Shipowners' Association, Chairman of China Association of Trade in Services, Chairman of China Shipowners Mutual Assurance Association, Vice Chairman of China Merchants Bank, Member of National MBA Education Steering Committee, Executive Director of the China International Economic Exchange Center, Asia-Pacific Advisor of Harvard Business School, and Panama Canal Advisor.

Captain Wei was awarded Hong Kong Institute of Directors’ Director of the Year Award, Hong Kong Management Association Membership, US House of Representatives People's Ambassador, American Connecticut Maritime Association Commodore Award, Belgian King Leopold II Decoration, UK's Seatrade Person of the Year Award, and CCTV People of the Year of China's Economy.

Dr Mengxin Yang

Dr Mengxin Yang

Dr Yang Mengxin is a Deputy Chairman of the Hong Kong Mercantile Exchange.

He is a renowned artist, entrepreneur and economist in China.

On 22 January 2005, Dr Yang was unanimously elected Second Session President at the 2nd National Annual Meeting of the Research Association of Chinese Peasant Calligraphy and Painting. He is Vice President of the 2nd National Council of the China Association for Scientific Expeditions.

Previously, he was Chairman of the Board of Zhong Min New Energy Limited, Chairman of investment firm Zhong Kun Lin Yuan Group, and Chinese Arts Consultant at Cardiff University in the UK. In 2005 to 2006, he was Director of the Arts Academy of the Institute of the China Institute of Defense Science and Technology.

Mr Sudip Bandyopadhyay

Mr Sudip Bandyopadhyay

Mr Sudip Bandyopadhyay is an Independent Non-Executive Director of the Hong Kong Mercantile Exchange.

Presently, he is Managing Director and CEO of Destimoney Securities, a full service financial organization in India promoted by New Silk Route – an Asia-focused, growth capital private equity firm with over $1.5 billion under management.

With over 23 years of experience in the financial sector, Mr Bandyopadhyay was earlier the Managing Director and CEO of Reliance Money, the retail financial services arm of India's Reliance Anil Dhirubhai Ambani Group. During his career at Reliance, he played a pivotal role in the acquisition of AMP Sanmar that launched the group's foray in the life insurance segment.

He also served as Director of Wall Street Finance Ltd from 2008 until 2010, and was also formerly a Director at India's National Multi-Commodity Exchange.

A chartered accountant by profession, Mr Bandyopadhyay started his career as a Management Trainee with Unilever's India affiliate, Hindustan Lever Ltd, and has worked across multiple assignments in the areas of capital market, money market and currency market operations.

Dr Raymond Kuo-fung Ch`ien

Dr Raymond Kuo-fung Ch`ien

Dr Raymond Ch'ien is an Independent Non-Executive Director of the Hong Kong Mercantile Exchange.

He was appointed Chairman of Mass Transit Railway Corporation in July 2003, and has been a member of the Board since 1998. Dr Ch'ien is chairman of CDC Corporation and its subsidiary, China.com Inc. He is also chairman and independent non-executive director of Hang Seng Bank Limited, as well as non-executive chairman of HSBC Private Equity (Asia) Limited. He serves on the boards of The Hongkong and Shanghai Banking Corporation Limited, Convenience Retail Asia Limited, The Wharf (Holdings) Limited and Swiss Reinsurance Company.

Dr Ch'ien is chairman of the Hong Kong/European Union Business Cooperation Committee, a Hong Kong member of the APEC Business Advisory Council, and a member of the Standing Committee of the Tianjin Municipal Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference.

Dr Ch'ien is the honorary president and past chairman of the Federation of Hong Kong Industries. He was a member of the Executive Council of Hong Kong, then under British Administration, from 1992 to 1997, a member of the Executive Council of the Hong Kong SAR from 1 July 1997 to June 2002, and chairman of the Advisory Committee on Corruption of the Independent Commission Against Corruption from 1 January 1998 to 31 December 2006.

Dr Ch'ien was appointed a Justice of the Peace in 1993. He was made a Commander in the Most Excellent Order of the British Empire in 1994, and awarded the Gold Bauhinia Star medal in 1999. In August 2008, he was awarded the honour of Chevalier de L'Ordre du Mérite Agricole of France. Dr Ch'ien received a doctoral degree in economics from the University of Pennsylvania in 1978 and became a Trustee of the University in 2006.

Professor Gang Fan

Professor Gang Fan

Professor Fan Gang is an Independent Non-Executive Director of the Hong Kong Mercantile Exchange.

He is Director of the National Institute of Economic Research, and Chairman of the China Reform Foundation (NERI-China) in Beijing, President of the China Development Center (Shenzhen), Professor of Economics at Peking University HSBC Business School and the Graduate School of Chinese Academy of Social Sciences. He is a member of the Monetary Policy Committee of the People's Bank of China.

Professor Fan has made prominent achievements in the field of Macroeconomics and Economics of Transition. Notably, he was awarded “Sun Ye-Fang Award for Outstanding Economic Study" in 1991 and 2005, and National Outstanding Scholar by the State Council in 1992. He is Guest Professor of a number of universities and graduate schools. He has consulted for various departments of the Chinese Central government, provincial governments and international organisations.

Professor Fan holds a PhD in Economics at the Graduate School of the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences (CASS). He received Docteur Honoris Causa (Honorary Doctorate) from University of Auvergne, France, in 2004, and has been listed as one of “World's Top 100 Public Intellectuals” jointly by Foreign Policy (USA) and Prospect (UK) magazines, in 2005 and 2008 respectively.

Mr Albert Helmig

Mr Albert Helmig

Mr Albert Helmig is an Executive Director and President of the Hong Kong Mercantile Exchange.

Mr Helmig oversees the day-to-day operation of the Exchange, and leads an international pool of talented professionals to build China’s global marketplace.

Mr Helmig is the third generation of his family to work in the commodity trading industry. He has more than 35 years of commodities experience on Wall Street and as a commodities merchant spanning both physical commodities and financial instruments on a global basis. He is a former Vice Chairman of the New York Mercantile Exchange, serving on its Board of Directors and the Executive Committee for 10 years, as well as Chairman or Vice Chairman of over 20 committees.

Mr Helmig was Founder and Chief Executive of Grey House LLC, a private consulting firm on risk management, price models and industry best practices to clients such as financial institutions, producers, integrated energy companies, government agencies and ministries, think tanks and law firms. He is a frequent contributor at industry forums and to the media. He serves on the Advisory Board of Energy Intelligence Group as well as other corporate boards.

Mr Helmig holds degrees in finance and economics from Philadelphia University.

Mr Dominic Chiu-fai Ho

Mr Dominic Chiu-fai Ho

Mr Dominic Ho is an Independent Non-Executive Director of the Hong Kong Mercantile Exchange.

He was co-chairman of KPMG China and Hong Kong SAR, and independent non-executive director of Hang Lung Properties Limited. He graduated from the University of Houston in the US, and is a member of the American Institute of Accountants as well as the Hong Kong Institute of Certified Public Accountants. He serves as a member of the Corruption Prevention Advisory Committee of the Independent Commission Against Corruption and a member of the Insurance Advisory Committee, both in Hong Kong.

Mr Ho is also a Non-Executive and Independent Director of Singapore Telecommunications Limited.

Ms Christine Loh

Ms Christine Loh

Ms Christine Loh is an Independent Non-Executive Director of the Hong Kong Mercantile Exchange.

She is the founder and CEO of Civic Exchange, an independent, non-profit public policy think tank in Hong Kong, and serves on a number of foundations and non-profit organisations in Hong Kong and abroad.

Trained as a lawyer, Ms Loh spent 14 years in the commercial world, holding top regional posts in a US multinational company in commodities trading, and subsequently served in a strategic management capacity for a Hong Kong company. She was appointed to the Hong Kong Legislative Council in 1992, and then ran in two successful elections in 1995 and 1998.

Ms Loh is well known for her work on environmental protection, energy and climate change. She also writes and comments extensively on economics and public affairs, and has become a leading voice in public policy in Hong Kong. Ms Loh graduated with a Bachelor of Law degree from the University of Hull, England, and later on received her Master of Law in Chinese and Comparative Law from the City University of Hong Kong. She has been widely acknowledged for her community work, and was named a Hero of the Environment by TIME in 2007.

Mr Peter Mok

Mr Peter Mok

Mr Peter Mok Fung is a Non-Executive Director of the Hong Kong Mercantile Exchange.

He is Founder and Chairman of Rainbow Group, a Hong Kong-based enterprise actively engaged in shipping, investment, real estate and commercial developments in mainland China. Mr Mok, who possesses extensive experience in the shipping industry and other businesses on the mainland, oversees the Group’s overall strategy and business development.

Mr Mok holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Ship Design & Engineering, and completed the Advanced Management Program at Harvard Business School in 2000.

Mr Alastair G. Morrison

Mr Alastair G. Morrison

Mr Alastair Morrison is an Independent Non-Executive Director of the Hong Kong Mercantile Exchange.

He is a British national who has lived and worked in Asia since 1971. He holds a number of non-executive directorships and participates in a number of Government and community organizations. He is currently Senior Advisor of Citigroup Asia Pacific, a leading global financial services company, an Independent Non-Executive Director at MTR Corporation Limited, and is also non-executive Chairman of Kang & Company, Limited, based in Hong Kong, a private equity firm founded in late 2007, with offices in Beijing, Hong Kong and Seoul.

Previously, Mr Morrison served as Group Managing Director of the Jardine Matheson Group and subsequently as Chairman and CEO for Morgan Stanley Asia. With his many years in Asia, including living and working in Hong Kong, Australia and the Philippines, Mr Morrison has built extensive regional contacts in the corporate and government communities. He has participated in a number of high level government-sponsored working groups and is an active member of the community in Hong Kong.

Mr Morrison was born in Scotland on September 29, 1948, and is a graduate of Eton College and Cambridge University. He attended the Program for Management Development at Harvard Business School in 1983.

Mr Artem Volynets

Mr Artem Volynets

Mr Artem Volynets is a Non-Executive Director of the Hong Kong Mercantile Exchange.

Mr Volynets is CEO of En+ Group, responsible for operational management and implementation of strategies aimed at turning the group into a global leader in the mining, metallurgy, energy and strategy-related industries in Russia and abroad. He also sits on En+ Group's Board of Directors.

Up until he joined En+ Group, Mr Volynets worked for three years at UC RUSAL as Director of Corporate Strategy and Business Development. He headed up the company's IPO on the Hong Kong Stock Exchange, as well as several major acquisitions including a 25% stake in Norilsk Nickel.

From 2009 to 2010, he served as the Head of the International Aluminum Institute – an organisation uniting over 80% of the world's aluminium producers.

Mr Volynets has also held senior management positions at SUAL, representing the company during its merger talks with RUSAL and Glencore. Between 1997 and 2003, he worked in the UK in the international consulting company Monitor Group, where he realised more than 25 major strategic projects and mergers for leading global companies.

Mr Volynets graduated from the Moscow State University, specialising in geography. He continued his education in the US with a bachelor's degree in economics from American University in Washington DC and an MBA from Georgetown University. He also studied at INSEAD, the European Institute of Business Administration.

Professor Richard Wong, SBS, JP, AB, AM, PhD Chicago

Professor Wong is an Independent Non-Executive Director of the Hong Kong Mercantile Exchange.

He is Professor of Economics at the University of Hong Kong. He was Founding Dean of the Faculty of Business and Economics. He is a leading figure in advancing economic research on policy issues in Hong Kong through his work as founding Director of the Hong Kong Centre for Economic Research and the Hong Kong Institute of Economics and Business Strategy.

His main research interest is in the applications of economic analysis to public policy. He had served on numerous public bodies including the Hong Kong SAR Government's Exchange Fund Advisory Committee, University Grants Committee, Land and Building Advisory Committee, Economic and Employment Council, the Commission on Strategic Development - Committee on Economic Development and Economic Cooperation with the Mainland, Hospital Authority, and Housing Authority.

He was awarded the Silver Bauhinia Star in 1999 by the Government of Hong Kong Special Administrative Region for his contributions in education, housing, industry and technology development and was appointed a Justice of the Peace in 2000.
