Mr Barry CHEUNG

Mr Barry Cheung is Chairman of the Hong Kong Mercantile Exchange.

Mr Cheung is currently Chairman of the Board of Hong Kong’s Urban Renewal Authority, Chairman of the Standing Committee on Disciplined Services Salaries and Conditions of Service, an Alternate Chairman of the Pay Trend Survey Committee, a member of the Commission on Strategic Development and a member of the Standing Commission on Civil Service Salaries and Conditions of Service.  He is an Independent Non-Executive Member of the Board of Directors of UC Rusal, the world's largest producer of aluminium and alumina. Mr Cheung is also a former Chairman of the Corruption Prevention Advisory Committee of Hong Kong’s Independent Commission against Corruption.

From 1993 to 1994, Mr Cheung was a full-time member of the Hong Kong Government's Central Policy Unit on secondment from McKinsey & Company. He was with McKinsey & Company in Los Angeles and Hong Kong from 1987 to 1994, advising major financial institutions in the United States and Asia.

Mr Cheung received a Bachelor of Science degree with First Class Honours in Mathematics and Computer Science from the University of Sussex and an MBA from the Harvard Business School.

 

Captain WEI Jiafu

Captain Wei Jiafu is a Deputy Chairman of the Hong Kong Mercantile Exchange. He has a master’s degree from Dalian Maritime University and a doctoral degree from Tianjin University. He has been a managing director in a number of subsidiary companies of COSCO both at home and abroad, including listed companies. In Nov. 1998, Captain Wei Jiafu became President and CEO of COSCO Group, and since Nov. 2002, he has been a member of CPC Central Commission for Discipline Inspection. Since Mar. 2005, Captain Wei has been Chairman of China COSCO. As a ship’s master, he has accumulated rich experiences in international shipping and listed company management and operation. Captain Wei Jiafu’s other major titles, at home and abroad, include: Chairman of China Shipowners’ Association, Chairman of China Association of Trade in Services, Chairman of China Shipowners Mutual Assurance Association, Vice Chairman of China Merchants Bank, Member of National MBA Education Steering Committee, Executive Director of the China International Economic Exchange Center, Asia-Pacific Advisor of Harvard Business School, Panama Canal Advisor. Captain Wei was awarded Hong Kong Director’s Association Outstanding Director, Hong Kong Management Association Membership, U.S. House of Representatives People’s Ambassador, American Connecticut Maritime Association Commodore Award, Belgian King Leopold II Decoration, United Kingdom SEA TRADE Person of the Year Award, CCTV People of the Year of China’s Economy.

Dr YANG Mengxin

Dr Yang Mengxin is a Deputy Chairman of the Hong Kong Mercantile Exchange. He is a renowned artist, entrepreneur and economist in China.

 

On 22 January 2005, Dr Yang was unanimously elected Second Session President at the 2nd National Annual Meeting of the Research Association of Chinese Peasant Calligraphy and Painting. He is Vice President of the 2nd National Council of the China Association for Scientific Expeditions. Previously, he was Chairman of the Board of Zhong Min New Energy Limited, Chairman of investment firm Zhong Kun Lin Yuan Group, and Chinese Arts Consultant at Cardiff University in the UK. In 2005-2006, he was Director of the Arts Academy of the Institute of the China Institute of Defense Science and Technology.

Mr Sudip BANDYOPADHYAY

Mr. Sudip Bandyopadhyay has been a Non-Executive Director of the Hong Kong Mercantile Exchange since 1 July 2009. He serves as Director of Reliance Money Limited and Reliance Money Express Ltd. Mr. Bandyopadhyay has over two decades of industry experience having worked with companies like ITC and HLL, apart from Reliance ADA Group. He has been Additional Director of Wall Street Finance Ltd. since November 24, 2009. He served as a Director of Wall Street Finance Ltd. from October 30, 2008 to September 2, 2009. Mr. Bandyopadhyay served as Director of National Multi-Commodity Exchange of India Limited. He joined Reliance Anil Dhirubhai Ambani Group in May 2005 and under his leadership, Reliance Money aggressively expanded its footprint in India and across the world. Mr. Bandyopadhyay was instrumental in leading Reliance Anil Dhirubhai Ambani Group’s foray, amongst others, into Commodity Exchange, gold coin retailing, money changing and money transfer business.

Dr Raymond CH'IEN Kuo-fung

Dr Raymond Ch'ien is an Independent Non-Executive Director of the Hong Kong Mercantile Exchange. He was appointed Chairman of Mass Transit Railway Corporation in July 2003. He has been a member of the Board since 1998. Dr Ch'ien is chairman of CDC Corporation and its subsidiary, China.com Inc. He is also chairman and independent non-executive director of Hang Seng Bank Limited, as well as non-executive chairman of HSBC Private Equity (Asia) Limited. He serves on the boards of The Hongkong and Shanghai Banking Corporation Limited, Convenience Retail Asia Limited, The Wharf (Holdings) Limited and Swiss Reinsurance Company. Dr Ch'ien is chairman of the Hong Kong/European Union Business Cooperation Committee, a Hong Kong member of the APEC Business Advisory Council, and a member of the Standing Committee of the Tianjin Municipal Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference. In addition, Dr Ch'ien is the honorary president and past chairman of the Federation of Hong Kong Industries. He was a member of the Executive Council of Hong Kong, then under British Administration, from 1992 to 1997, a member of the Executive Council of the Hong Kong SAR from 1 July 1997 to June 2002 and chairman of the Advisory Committee on Corruption of the Independent Commission Against Corruption from 1 January 1998 to 31 December 2006. Dr Ch'ien was appointed a Justice of the Peace in 1993. He was made a Commander in the Most Excellent Order of the British Empire in 1994 and awarded the Gold Bauhinia Star medal in 1999. In August 2008, he was awarded the honour of Chevalier de L'Ordre du Mérite Agricole of France. Dr Ch'ien received a doctoral degree in economics from the University of Pennsylvania in 1978 and became a Trustee of the University in 2006.

Professor FAN Gang

Professor Fan Gang is an Independent Non-Executive Director of the Hong Kong Mercantile Exchange. He is the Director of the National Institute of Economic Research, and Chairman, China Reform Foundation (NERI-China), Beijing, China; President of the China Development Center (Shenzhen); Professor of Economics at Peking University HSBC Business School, and the Graduate School of Chinese Academy of Social Sciences. He is a member of Monetary Policy Committee of the People’s Bank of China. Professor Fan has made prominent achievements in the field of Macroeconomics and Economics of Transition. Notably, he was awarded “Sun Ye-Fang Award for Outstanding Economic Study" in 1991 and 2005, and National Outstanding Scholar by the State Council in 1992. He is Guest Professor of number of universities and graduate schools; He has been consulting to various departments of Chinese Central government, provincial governments and international organizations. Professor Fan holds a Ph.D. in Economics at the Graduate School of the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences (CASS). He received Docteur Honoris Causa (Honorary Doctorate) from University of Auvergne, France, in 2004, and listed as one of “World’s Top 100 Public Intellectuals” jointly by Foreign Policy (USA) and Prospect (UK), 2005 and 2008 consecutively.

Mr Albert HELMIG

Mr Albert Helmig is an Executive Director and President of the Hong Kong Mercantile Exchange. He leads the day-to-day operation of the Exchange. Together with an international pool of talented professionals, he works to build Asia’s Exchange in one of the region’s most prominent financial hub, Hong Kong.

Mr Helmig is the third generation of his family to work in the commodities trading industry. He has more than 35 years of commodities experience from Wall Street to commodity merchant spanning both physical commodities and financial instruments on a global basis. He is a former Vice Chairman of the New York Mercantile Exchange; he served on the Board of Directors and the Executive Committee for 10 years and was Chairman or Vice Chairman of over 20 committees. Mr Helmig was Founder and Chief Executive of Grey House LLC, a private consulting firm on risk management, price models and industry best practices to clients such as financial institutions, producers, integrated energy companies, government agencies and ministries, think tanks and law firms. He is a frequent contributor at industry forums and to the media. He serves on the Advisory Board of Energy Intelligence Group as well as other corporate boards.

Mr Helmig holds degrees in Finance and Economics from Philadelphia University.

Mr Dominic HO Chiu-fai

Mr Dominic Ho is an Independent Non-Executive Director of the Hong Kong Mercantile Exchange. He has been co-chairman of KPMG China and Hong Kong SAR and independent non-executive director of Hang Lung Properties Limited. He obtained his degrees at the University of Houston in the United States and is a member of the American Institute of Accountants and a member of the Hong Kong Institute of Certified Public Accountants. He serves as a member of the Corruption Prevention Advisory Committee of Independent Commission Against Corruption and a member of the Insurance Advisory Committee, both in Hong Kong. Mr Ho is also the Non-Executive and Independent Director of Singapore Telecommunications Limited.

Mr KANG Dian

Mr Kang Dian is an Independent Non-Executive Director of the Hong Kong Mercantile Exchange. He graduated from the University of Science and Technology Beijing in 1982 and obtained a Masters degree in Economics at the Graduate School of the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences in 1984. He has been the Deputy Division Chief and Division Chief of China International Trust & Investment Corporation, Vice President of China Agribusiness Trust & Investment Corporation, Vice President of China National Packaging Corporation, Director and Vice President of Guangdong Enterprises (Holdings) Limited, Managing Director of Guangdong Capital Holdings Limited, the Chairman of Guangdong Securities Limited. He is currently the Chairman of the 6th Supervision Board of Shenzhen Development Bank Company Limited and Chairman of New China Life Insurance Co Ltd. Mr Kang is also an independent non-executive director of Silver Grant Investment Limited and China Galaxy Futures Company Limited, respectively, and director of Springridge Investment Management Limited.

Ms Christine LOH

Ms Christine Loh is an Independent Non-Executive Director of the Hong Kong Mercantile Exchange. She is the founder and CEO of Civic Exchange, an independent, non-profit public policy think tank in Hong Kong, and serves on a number of foundations and non-profit organisations in Hong Kong and abroad. After training as a lawyer, Ms Loh spent 14 years in the commercial world, holding top regional posts in a US multinational company in commodities trading, and subsequently in strategic management for a Hong Kong company. She was appointed to the Hong Kong Legislative Council in 1992, and then ran in two successful elections in 1995 and 1998. Ms Loh is well known for her work on environmental protection, energy and climate change. She also writes and comments extensively on economics and public affairs, and has become a leading voice in public policy in Hong Kong. Ms Loh graduated with a Bachelor of Law degree from the University of Hull, England, and later on received her Masters of Law in Chinese and Comparative Law from the City University of Hong Kong. She has been widely acknowledged for her community work, and was named a Hero of the Environment by TIME in 2007.

Mr Alasdair G. MORRISON

Mr Alastair Morrison is an Independent Non-Executive Director of the Hong Kong Mercantile Exchange. He is a British national who has lived and worked in Asia since 1971. He holds a number of non-executive directorships and participates in a number of Government and community organizations. He is currently Senior Advisor of Citigroup Asia Pacific, a leading global financial services company, and is also non-executive Chairman of Kang & Company, Limited, based in Hong Kong, a private equity firm founded in late 2007, with offices in Beijing, Hong Kong and Seoul. Previously, Mr Morrison served as Group Managing Director of the Jardine Matheson Group and subsequently as Chairman and CEO for Morgan Stanley Asia. Over his many years in Asia, including living and working in Hong Kong, Australia and the Philippines, Mr Morrison has built extensive regional contacts in the corporate and government community. He has participated in a number of high level government-sponsored working groups and is an active member of the community in Hong Kong. Mr Morrison was born in Scotland on September 29, 1948, and is a graduate of Eton College and Cambridge University. He attended the Program for Management Development at Harvard Business School in 1983.

Professor Richard WONG Yue-chim, SBS, JP, AB, AM, PhD Chicago

Professor Wong is an Independent Non-Executive Director of the Hong Kong Mercantile Exchange. He is Professor of Economics and Deputy Vice-Chancellor and Provost at the University of Hong Kong. He was Founding Dean of the Faculty of Business and Economics. He is a leading figure in advancing economic research on policy issues in Hong Kong through his work as founding Director of the Hong Kong Centre for Economic Research, Asia Pacific Economic Co-operation Study Centre, and the Hong Kong Institute of Economics and Business Strategy. His main research interest is in the applications of economic analysis to public policy. He had served on numerous public bodies including the Hong Kong SAR Government’s Exchange Fund Advisory Committee, University Grants Committee, Land and Building Advisory Committee, Economic and Employment Council, the Commission on Strategic Development - Committee on Economic Development and Economic Cooperation with the Mainland, Hospital Authority, and Housing Authority, etc. He was awarded the Silver Bauhinia Star in 1999 by the Government of Hong Kong Special Administrative Region for his contributions in education, housing, industry and technology development and was appointed a Justice of the Peace in 2000.
